SUBANG JAYA: More than 100 policemen, including from the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU), have been deployed to Sri Maha Mariamman temple here since early this morning to maintain the situation, following the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.
The policemen include normal uniformed police, plainclothes policemen and FRU detachments.
Checks showed that the LDP exit to Putra Heights – USJ was temporarily closed from 6am to 9am. Some media practitioners were also spotted at the temple.
The temple appeared quiet, even deserted with only the police and a few media personnel observing the scene, although the temple priests were around earlier to conduct prayers.
However, the situation around the temple was calm. It is learnt that about 100 policemen were also placed at One City in Putra Heights.
This preventive measure was taken after Muhammad Adib passed away at the National Heart Institute (IJN) last night.
On Sunday, Muhammad Adib’s condition was critical after suffering progressive deterioration of his lung and kidney function over the past 24 hours.
Muhammad Adib was allegedly beaten up by several people on Nov 27 during the riots near the temple caused by a dispute over its proposed relocation.
Conspiracy theories about how Muhammad Adib was injured had been circulated after the temple’s priest claimed the fireman was mowed down by a fire truck.
The Fire and Rescue Department said the person referred to was Mohd Hazim Mohd Rahimi, who had run past a fire truck but was not mowed down.
Muhammad Adib’s remains had been flown back to his hometown in Kampung Tebengau, in Kuala Kedah for burial.
