KLANG: The municipal council here is gearing up for a spectacular weekend as it prepares to host the much-anticipated Heritage Fiesta at the Kota Raja Stadium tomorrow and on Sunday.
As part of Klang “Car-Free Day”, the event promises a blend of cultural exhibitions, traditional competitions and Malaysian delicacies. Council president Noraini Roslan said the event will foster strong community bonds and be a strategic promotional platform as Klang heads towards attaining city status.
“The event provides a unique opportunityfor visitors to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Malaysia’s diverse ethnic cultures.
“It offers a platform for individuals to engage in various cultural experiences and foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for cultural traditions.
She added that there will be booths offering products from small and medium enterprises, alongside food stalls.
“The event will unfold with an arts and tourism exhibition that showcases a diverse array of tourism hotspots, inviting attendees to explore and appreciate the myriad attractions Klang has to offer.”
Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry secretary-general Datuk Roslan Abdul Rahman and state Housing and Heritage Committee chairman Borhan Aman Shah are expected to attend the opening ceremony.
The ceremony will feature the presentation of appreciation certificates to collaborators, a traditional food festival, cultural performances from various ethnic groups and appearances by guest artistes.
“It’s a comprehensive celebration that embraces the richness of culture and collaboration,” Noraini said.
On Sunday, the spotlight will focus on the Heritage Walk, Fun Ride and the Car-Free Day Walk, themed Warisan Klang Bahagia Berintegriti.
The day’s highlight would revolve around the inauguration of the Klang Bahagia Berintegriti mural at the Park and Ride Komuter Klang station.
“The council is always open regarding integrity matters. We are ready to partner Rasuah Busters to jointly drive awareness programmes to steer clear of corruption among council staff.
“The mural marks the second collaboration between the NGO and the council.”
She said all parties are now actively playing a role in promoting the anti-corruption movement in society, adding that the role of combating graft cannot be placed entirely on the shoulders of the authorities.
“It requires the involvement of all parties, including the community, private sector and media.”
The second day of the fiesta will encompass a variety of traditional games that showcase the country’s cultural diversity and involve ethnic groups in competitions.
Noraini said the two-day event would be a memorable celebration of Klang’s heritage.
“It will foster unity and appreciation for the cultural diversity that defines this royal town.”
