Mobile Rahmah Sales help to cut household expenditure substantially

KUANTAN: The Mobile Rahmah Sales, an initiative of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, is seen to be very beneficial in helping households, especially those from the B40 group, to save on expenses when buying their essential goods.

Housewife Maznah Zakaria, 35, is among those who will attest to this and did not want to miss out on the opportunity to visit the sales programme held on the grounds of Masjid Bukit Setongkol, here today, after not having the chance to visit the sales previously.

She purchased several items such as chicken, which was sold at RM10 a bird, and a 200-millilitre box of coconut milk (RM2.30), and was pleased with the prices.

“Previously. my sister told me about the cheap prices offered at the sales programme, so this time, I rushed off to buy chicken and coconut milk, and it was true…the prices were cheap and more importantly the chicken was fresh.

“This programme is good and helps the B40 group to buy groceries at cheaper prices and at the same time it helps cut our household expenditure,“ the mother of one, who lives in Taman Cenderawasih, told Bernama.

Besides chicken and coconut milk, the Mobile Rahmah Sales, which was held from 10 am to 1 pm, also offered rice at RM15 for a five-kilogramme (kg) bag, 5 kg cooking oil (RM25), sardine (RM6), packet of wheat flour (RM2.50), ketchup (RM3), chilli sauce (RM3.50) and dishwashing soap (RM5).

Meanwhile, retiree Ilahi Razak, 65, said he managed to make 30 per cent savings on his expenses, buying rice, cooking oil, chicken, chilli sauce and dishwashing soap.

“Yesterday, I bought a chicken at a nearby market at a price of RM20 a bird, but today here (Rahmah Sales), I bought chicken at RM10 a bird. Other items were also cheap. In the current situation where the cost of all goods is expensive, I find the Rahmah Sales is to some extent helping those who are less fortunate,“ he said.

For Koyamoo Ali, 67, this initiative is an approach to help the community get goods at a cheap price and it has received a good response from local residents.

“I also bought some items earlier and it was worth it. In fact, organising it in this area also made it more convenient for residents,“ said Koyamoo, who lives in Taman Bukit Setongkol Jaya here. –Bernama
