AKSB: Power outages cause of water supply disruption at Felda Perasu

KOTA BHARU: The disruption of clean water supply in the Felda Perasu area and its surroundings at the beginning of Aidilfitri was caused by power outages at the Chiku Water Treatment Plant (LRA) in Gua Musang.

In a statement today, Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB) said the power disruption under the jurisdiction of Tenaga Nasional Berhad directly affected the delivery process of water supply to the Felda Perasu Tank for distribution to residents.

According to AKSB, the power outages at the Chiku Water Treatment Plant also directly impacted the daily operation of the plant, affecting a total of 353 user accounts, including 60 accounts from commercial areas.

“Based on records, power disruptions occurred for almost 23 hours and 25 minutes over a five-day period, namely on March 2, 21, 25, and 26, as well as April 11,“ the statement read.

AKSB further informed that the Chiku LRA water production operates at a capacity of 7.5 million litres per day (MLD) and is expected to operate at full capacity, reaching 12 MLD by May.

AKSB informed that their Non-Revenue Water (NRW) team in the Gua Musang district is actively checking for pipe leaks around Felda Perasu considering the high amount of water produced but which does not reach consumers’ homes.

AKSB noted that the peak water usage demand occurred from April 8 to 13.

At the same time, AKSB said the Water Supply Preparedness Plan covering all operational districts, to maximise supply of clean water during the Aidilfitri festival season, has been activated since April 6.

Last Friday, local media reported a gloomy Aidilfitri celebration for Felda Perasu residents when supply of clean water was cut off since April 7.
