Companies honoured for SDG initiatives

KLANG: A total of 23 companies have received awards for initiatives that contributed to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

A Sustainable Community Awards ceremony was recently organised by the Klang Municipal Council, with attendees including company representatives, Selangor Local Government, Tourism and New Village Development Committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim and council president Datin Paduka Noraini Roslan.

She said the event aims to highlight the dedication and pioneering spirit of the Klang community in advancing the principles of sustainable development.

“The event is a recognition of companies that have fulfilled SDG outlined by the United Nations. The SDG framework tackles and seeks solutions for various urban sustainability issues worldwide.

“By offering a platform and celebrating achievements, the ceremony magnifies the pivotal role the companies have played in Klang.

“With the initiatives, residents are assured of a prosperous and peaceful future in which all facets of life operate in a synergistic and sustainable balance.”

Ng expressed admiration for the council efforts in guiding Klang toward its goal of being a model for sustainable royal cities that have rich historical legacies.

“SDG have an indispensable role in addressing societal disparities, alleviating poverty, combating climate change threats and coordinating economic progress that is sustainably linked to environmental protection.”

He said the council organised a wide range of initiatives that resonate with the core of all 17 SDG, including recycling campaigns, promoting green neighbourhoods, river conservation projects, tree plantation drives and community-centric gardening.

“These are not just projects. They are deliberate efforts aimed at improving quality of life and guiding the city toward a sustainable future,” he added.

Ng also expressed hope the council will work with all stakeholders to move forward with its mission consistently, adding that it would lead Klang to be a leader in sustainable urban development.
