Johor Immigration nabs 47 foreigners suspected of misusing RTK 2.0

JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor Immigration Department detained 47 foreigners suspected of misusing the Labour Recalibration Programme (RTK) 2.0 slips in a raid under Ops Mahir in the manufacturing area in Kluang yesterday.

Johor Immigration director Baharuddin Tahir said the 10.30 am raid was carried out after it received complaints from the public about the premises hiring foreigners suspected of not holding valid work permits.

He said the operation involved 51 officers from the state Enforcement Division and the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex.

“Those detained comprised foreign nationals from India (23 men), Bangladesh (21), Sri Lanka (two men) and Pakistan (one man), with all of them aged between 22 and 56.

“They were arrested for failing to produce valid travel documents, overstaying, misusing the Social Visit Pass and violating the conditions of the pass,” he said in a statement today.

Baharuddin said the cases are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c), Section 15(1)(c), Rule 11 (7) (a) and Rule 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963, and that all the detainees have been placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot here for further investigation and action.

He also urged all employers to register their foreign workers who meet the requirements in the RTK 2.0 programme, which will end on Dec 31, adding that stern action would be taken against employers found to hire workers who do not possess valid documents.-Bernama
