Johor mulls providing accommodations for Johorean students in Jordan

BATU PAHAT: The Johor government is considering providing accommodation for students from the state who are pursuing their studies in Jordan to help ease their burden due to rising costs of living.

State Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid said the request was made by Johorean students in Jordan during his recent visit to the country, and preliminary discussions on the matter have already started.

He added that the state government had previously rented two buildings in Egypt, which had been refurbished at a cost of RM8.4 million and will be used as hotels for 354 students.

“The buildings in Egypt are set to begin accommodating students pursuing Islamic studies and medicine starting this month,” he told reporters after the Batu Pahat Berselawat progranne at Masjid Jamek Taman Sri Sulong here last night.

Mohd Fared added that the state government had channelled RM88,500 and RM65,500 in financial aid to Johorean students in Egypt and Jordan, respectively, to boost their morale and help them excel in their studies.–Bernama
