PUTRAJAYA: Nearly 1,000 Muslims participated in the New Year Qiamullail (the act of worship during the last part of the night) at the Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque, here, in conjunction with the celebration of the New Year 2024, and as a sign of solidarity with Palestine.

The event, which is part of the Ambang Gema Syukur programme, organised by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim), was attended by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, and his deputy, Dr Zulkifli Hasan.

The congregational Qiamullail, starting around 4.30 am, began with the Solat Tahajjud (night prayer), followed by Solat Taubat (repentance prayer) and Solat Hajat (prayer of need), led by guest Imam, Ustaz Wan Ammar Hadi.

The programme continued with the congregational Fajr prayer, led by the Imam of the Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque, Nabil Mirza.

The subsequent segment featured Palestinian activist, Dr Abdelrahman Ibrahim, along with the Muslim Welfare Foundation (MyFundAction) founder and chief advisor, Dr Hizul Azri, in the ‘Subuh 4 GAZA’ lecture session.

Mohd Na’im, when met after the event, said that the spiritual and religious activities organised by Jakim provide an alternative for the Muslim community in the country in celebrating the new year, and these activities attracted the attendance of over 800 youths.

“Today’s activities were attended mostly by young people, especially from several local institutions of higher learning.

“I hope the mosques can initiate more collaboration with non-governmental organisations, to hold programmes which can capture the interest of young people, because mosques are not only places of worship but also gathering places for people of all ages,” he said.

He added that he will ensure that agencies under the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), especially the Islamic Propagation Foundation of Malaysia (Yadim), organise various programmes for youths this year.–Bernama
