KUALA LUMPUR: United States President Donald Trump will arrive in Malaysia this Sunday to participate in the 47th ASEAN Summit happening in the capital.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil confirmed the president’s attendance following last Friday’s Cabinet meeting.

“Confirmed — Donald Trump will arrive in Malaysia on Oct 26,” said Fahmi, who also serves as the MADANI Government’s spokesperson.

He made this announcement during his inspection of preparations at the International Media Centre and International Broadcast Centre for the summit at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Fahmi declined to elaborate further about Trump’s inaugural visit to Kuala Lumpur since beginning his second presidential term last November.

Trump had previously mentioned plans to visit Malaysia soon during a public statement on Monday.

The 47th ASEAN Summit carries the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability” and runs from October 26 to 28.

ASEAN’s ten member states will be joined by key dialogue partners including the United States, China, Japan and India. – Bernama
