KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,160 staff on the Expressway 8 (E8) network are ready to assist users of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK), East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1) and East Coast Expressay 2 (LPT2) on trips to Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan at the end of the year.

The staff would include patrol members, expressway maintenance teams and Traffic Control Centres on the E8 network.

The KLK and LPT1 are being run by ANIH Berhad while LPT2 is operated by LPT 2 Sdn Bhd.

These three components of the expressways connect the Klang Valley via Gombak to the East Coast such as Gambang and Kuantan in Pahang and Kuala Terengganu in Terengganu.

ANIH Berhad executive director, Datuk Nik Fauzi Tan Sri Nik Hussein said the E8 was the best option for users to arrive at their destinations safely during the monsoon season which was causing floods in several places especially on state and federal coastal roads.

“Highway users are guaranteed not only to enjoy a smooth and time-saving trip, but also to enjoy various facilities.

‘’The facilities include Rest and Service (R&R) areas, side stops, emergency assistance and existing 24-hour patrol services,“ he said in a statement, today.

At the same time, LPT 2 Sdn Bhd director Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi said the company recommended that users use the LPT2 highway to continue their journey to Terengganu, Kuantan or the Klang Valley if state or federal coastal routes were closed or submerged in floods.

He said highway users were also advised to ensure that the balances of cards and Touch ‘n Go e-Wallet were adequate.

In addition, he said they should follow the stipulated standard operating procedures to curb the spread of Covid-19, especially in R&R areas and side stops.

Users who want to get emergency assistance on the E8 network were advised to call the 24-hour LPT Line for KLK and LPT1 at 1-700-818-700 while the LPT2 Line is at 1-800-88-0220. -Bernama
