Govt assures temple will not be demolished until matter is resolved

SUBANG JAYA: The government has assured the Seafield temple committee that demolition works will no proceed until the matter is properly resolved.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P. Waytha Moorthy and Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran (pix) who visited the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ25 said they will raise the matter with the prime minister.

“Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is very concerned about the matter. We will discuss it even with the Attorney General and the Selangor Mentri Besar,“ said Waytha.

Earlier, when the ministers arrived, they were greeted with loud boos and berated by several supporters at the temple.

Several temple task force members took several minutes to calm the crowd.

Waytha also assured everyone that the incident was non-racial and urged them to remain calm.

The ministers also said that special prayers would be held at the temple on Tuesday to pray for the well being of those hurt in the violence.
