SHAH ALAM: Malaysia’s courier market is projected to reach between RM6.8 billion and RM6.9 billion this year.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil attributed this growth partly to a surge in demand from the e-commerce sector.

He cited the opening of facilities like the SPX Express Sorting Centre as evidence of this expansion.

“Information from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission clearly shows a sharp increase in parcel volume over the last two to three years.”

“This proves that the government’s efforts to strengthen the e-commerce ecosystem are having a tangible impact.”

Fahmi noted that digital infrastructure improvements including 5G and 5G Advanced are supporting this growth.

He revealed that the new BRS Sorting Centre has created over 1,000 job opportunities in various fields.

“Beyond the sorting jobs, the team also needs engineers to ensure all hardware and equipment functions well.”

Fahmi expressed hope that SPX Express would establish a Technical and Vocational Education and Training programme.

“Technological changes present an opportunity to upgrade our skills.”

He suggested the courier industry forge closer partnerships with higher education institutions.

The over 30,000-square-metre BRS Sorting Centre represents a RM63.2 million investment.
