GEORGE TOWN: The Acting Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Nazrin Shah, and Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, flew to Penang today to begin a two-day visit of the state.
Sultan Nazrin, who is the Sultan of Perak, and Tuanku Zara were welcomed at the Penang International Airport at 1.45pm by Yang Dipertuan Negeri, Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas, and his wife, Toh Puan Majimor Shariff.
Also present was Penang Deputy Chief Minister 1, Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman.
The Mufti of Penang, Datuk Wan Salim Wan Mohd Noor, said the ‘doa’ prayers soon after their arrival.
The royal couple then left for Hotel Equatorial, Bayan Lepas, near here, before the function this evening, where they will have an audience with the Penang State Fatwa Committee members.
Tonight, Sultan Nazrin and Tuanku Zara will then attend a banquet hosted by the state government, with Tun Abdul Rahman and Toh Puan Majimor also expected to be present.
Tomorrow, Sultan Nazrin will hand over a contribution of RM5,000 to the chairman of Masjid Jamek Sungai Gelugor after performing Friday prayers at the mosque, before departing with Tuanku Zara for the federal capital. — Bernama
