Technician jailed 17 years, 10 whipping for raping step-daughter

KUALA LUMPUR: A technician was sentenced to 17 years’ jail and 10 strokes of the cane by the Ampang sessions court here today after he was found guilty of raping his step-daughter two years ago.

Judge Suzana Hussin handed down the sentence on the 28-year-old man after finding that the defence failed to raise reasonable doubts against the prosecution’s case.

The court, however, allowed a stay of the sentence, pending an appeal at the High Court, but increased the man’s bail from RM10,000 to RM20,000.

The technician was charged with committing the offence on the girl, who was then 14-years and seven months old, in the living room of a house in Pandan Indah at 11pm in February 2016.

The accused, who is now divorced from the victim’s mother, was charged under Section 376 (3) of the Penal Code, which provides for an imprisonment of up to 30 years and whipping of not less than 10 times, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Goh Ai Rene prosecuted, while the accused was represented by lawyer Mohd Redzuan Mohamed Yusoff. — Bernama
