FOLLOWING the successful launch of the Taiwan Excellence Esports Cup (TEEC) in April this year, the tournament culminated in a grand finale from Oct 11 to 13.
Throughout its journey, the Taiwan Excellence Esports Cup has conducted over 10 online and LAN qualifiers in the nation, overseeing 283 teams and 1,415 participants competing for highly sought-after qualification positions.
The three-day tournament witnessed the best of Malaysian eSports athletes compete in three main game categories for the games CS: GO, DotA 2 and League of Legends. Champions of each game title won RM10,000 each and the winning team for CS: GO received a golden invitation ticket to Taiwan for a friendly match with four other competing countries including, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines and India.
Since the start of the tournament, the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has announced its endorsement as it recognises the window of opportunity that would bring out the best of Malaysian gamers through a healthy gaming platform.
“When we started (the tournament) this year, we were confident in bringing out and delivering our intended message to esports fans and tech enthusiasts in Malaysia. This tournament is our way of showcasing the very best of Taiwanese innovation through an engaging and interactive platform,” said Taipei Economic and Cultural Office Malaysia representative Anne Hung.
The tournament had also received major backing from Taiwanese brands including Aorus, Aero, Coolermaster, InWin, MSI, Predator, Republic of Gamers (ROG), TeamGroup, Thermaltake, Transcend, XPG, ZADAK, Zowie. Their participation has provided many Malaysians with the opportunity to experience the highest level of eSports through this competition.
One of the products brought by Predator was the newly launched Predator Helios 700, which comes equipped with the “HyperDrift keyboard”, where an inner keyboard slides out of the normal keyboard, increasing airflow and automatically triggering the “overclock” function that increases performance by 20-30%.
“For us, we have always been working closely with Taiwan Excellence as their partner as part of our collaboration with the Taiwanese government. It gives us a very good platform to showcase our products to the public and also gives us a lot of room to bring the best out of us,” said Acer Product Department senior product manager Jeffrey Lai.
Additionally, exclusively previewed at the event was ASUS and Republic of Gamers’ ROG Zephyrus S GX502, which according to benchmark scores, is one of the best performing gaming phones in the market.
“The latest Snapdragon 855+ processor powers it, which is one of the highest range in the market. On average if you play games, it can last an entire day, and it lasts even longer if used normally,” said ASUS Malaysia Assistant PR Manager Steven Wong.
“Designed more for gamers, this supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. That is important to some gamers, particularly the ones that want an immersive experience. It doesn’t just cater to gamers, because for someone that watches video a lot, the phone is capable of giving quality entertainment.”
Explaining that the ROG Zephyrus S GX502 will be launching on Oct 16, Wong points out that as the market trend is increasing for eSports, gamers are demanding for higher-end gaming devices which led to the conception of GX502.
As a whole, TEEC proved to be another step in the right direction for cultivating homegrown eSports talent, particularly with the side activities that encourages the audience to participate in sub-game titles like Tekken 7, Super Smash Bros and PES 2019.
