WATSONS Malaysia is collaborating with the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA) for the second consecutive year to promote the early detection of breast cancer among Malaysian women through the Watsons Pink Power campaign.
The Pink Power campaign by Watons which began on Oct 1 and ends on Oct 31, will enable shoppers to contribute to BCWA by purchasing RM50 and above of participating brands where RM1 will be donated with every RM50 purchase. In addition, shoppers will get a free RM10 voucher.
Participating brands of the Pink Power campaign includes Naturals by Watsons, Pink by Pure Beauty, Betadine, Bio essence, Blackmores, Biore, Getaphil, Gatsby, Good Virtues Co, Herbal Essences, Hada Labo, Kitsui, Kinohimitsu, Lifebuoy, Loreal Paris, Max Factor X and Oral B among others.
The Pink Ribbon which is a global symbolism of breast cancer awareness, is available in the form of pink ribbon magnets for RM5 at selected Watsons stores and online. Upon purchase, customers will get a free health check and a free express make-over by Watsons experts.
“Every year, October marks Breast Cancer Awareness month worldwide to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. We aim to make a difference by empowering our shoppers, as well as our staff to educate themselves on breast cancer awareness including promoting regular health checks,” said Watsons Malaysia managing director Caryn Loh.
Loh added that the Pink Power campaign in collaboration with BCWA aims to communicate that breast cancer patients have support groups with various programmes. “This is so that patients don’t feel helpless and alone in their challenging journey combating the disease. We hope that the donations channeled from the campaign to BCWA will enable the association to continue with their mission to improve the quality of life for women with breast cancer,” she said.
According to Loh, the campaign raised RM60,000 last year and this year’s campaign aims to raise 20% more.
BCWA was founded in 1986 by medical specialists who realised the need for peer support for women with breast cancer and promotes public education of early detection. The association is solely funded by public donations, membership fee and fundraising activities.
