Chinese embassy warns citizens in Japan after violent attacks

Chinese citizens in Japan urged to stay vigilant and avoid travel after a series of violent incidents, including assaults and a vehicle-ramming, left several injured.

TOKYO: The Chinese Embassy in Japan has issued a safety notice urging its citizens to stay vigilant.

This follows a series of violent incidents reported in several parts of the country.

The embassy stated that public security conditions in some regions have recently deteriorated.

It cited violent incidents in prefectures including Fukuoka, Shizuoka and Aichi.

Multiple Chinese nationals travelling in Japan have reported being verbally abused and assaulted without provocation.

These incidents resulted in injuries.

The notice also referred to a vehicle-ramming incident in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward on Dec 31, 2025.

In that attack, two Chinese citizens were seriously injured and taken to hospital for emergency treatment.

In light of the situation, the embassy advised Chinese citizens to avoid travelling to Japan in the near term.

Those currently in Japan were urged to closely monitor local security conditions.

The embassy called on them to remain alert and strengthen personal safety precautions.

It also advised promptly preserving evidence if targeted or discriminated against.

Chinese nationals should report such cases to local police and contact Chinese diplomatic missions in Japan for assistance.
