Indonesian rescuers have recovered the body of a Spanish football coach missing since a tourist boat sank in rough seas off the popular Komodo islands.
LABUAN BAJO: Rescuers retrieved the body of a Spanish tourist on Sunday, more than a week after a boat sank in eastern Indonesia.
The body was found floating near Rinca island, about two kilometres from the accident site on December 26, said local search and rescue agency head Fathur Rahman.
Authorities confirmed the victim was 44-year-old Fernando Martin Carreras.
Carreras was the coach of Spanish club Valencia’s reserve women’s team, according to an earlier Real Madrid statement.
His wife and one daughter were among seven people rescued after the vessel sank in the Padar Island Strait.
The body of another daughter was found on Monday, leaving two boys from the same family still missing.
Rescuers continue searching with divers and sonar systems, Fathur said.
Local police have launched an investigation into the sinking, state news agency Antara reported.
A police spokesman said legal action would follow if evidence of negligence is found.
Maritime accidents are common in Indonesia, an archipelago of 17,000 islands, often due to lax safety standards or bad weather.
