Besut IKM launches Terengganu’s first EV charging station

Besut MARA Skills Institute unveils Terengganu’s first EV charger to serve local users and support TVET training in green automotive technology

JERTIH: Besut MARA Skills Institute (IKM) has launched Terengganu’s first electric vehicle (EV) charging station at its campus.

State MARA director Mohd Farris Radzuan said the single-unit charger is available for use by EV owners in the district.

He added that the station will also serve out-of-district travellers needing to charge their vehicles.

“EV owners can charge their vehicles by scanning the QR code at the station, with payments processed online,” he told Bernama.

Mohd Farris said the initiative supports the institute’s goal of becoming a hub for emerging technologies like EVs and sustainable energy.

It also aligns with its focus on advancing technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in green technology.

Besut IKM has also received two new EVs under a ministry rationalisation programme.

The vehicles are a BYD Atto 3 and a Proton e.MAS 5.

Diploma in Automotive Technology students will use them for hands-on training in EV systems.

“This programme includes modules on hybrid and EV vehicles,” Mohd Farris added.

He said an EV centre will be featured when the institute’s new building is completed by the end of 2027.
