Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution will meet AGC officers for full briefing on Amri Che Mat and Pastor Koh cases before deciding next course of action.
PUTRAJAYA: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail will meet officers from the Attorney-General’s Chambers tomorrow for a comprehensive briefing on the disappearance cases of activist Amri Che Mat and pastor Raymond Koh.
He said the meeting is crucial to fully understand the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s decision that ordered the government to pay compensation and reopen investigation papers.
“I will meet with the AGC officers who have handled this case from the beginning,” he told reporters after attending the Jelajah Wira MADANI Programme at Putrajaya District Police Headquarters.
“The aim is to get a complete and clear briefing before deciding on the next course of action.”
Saifuddin emphasized he should not make any statements hastily without first receiving the full briefing.
He noted the cases have been ongoing since 2016 and 2017, making them long-standing issues for his ministry.
The minister added that the cases have gone through several investigation stages, including court reviews filed by the families seeking access to investigation reports.
Amri was reported missing on November 24, 2016, while Koh disappeared on February 13, 2017.
Yesterday, the High Court ordered the government to pay RM3.26 million in damages to Amri’s wife, Norhayati Mohd Ariffin, and more than RM37 million to Koh’s wife, Susanna Liew.
The court ruled in favour of the families against the government and police.
The AGC has since announced it will file an appeal against the court’s compensation ruling.
The appeal concerns High Court Judge Datuk Su Tiang Joo’s finding that police and government were responsible for the two men’s disappearance. – Bernama
