Royal Malaysian Navy officer Captain Mahazam Ali denies eight corruption charges involving RM93,800 in Shah Alam court

SHAH ALAM: A senior Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) officer has pleaded not guilty to eight corruption charges involving 93,800 ringgit.

Captain Mahazam Ali, aged 48, entered his plea before Sessions Court Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud.

The officer serves as Director of Human Resources Strategy in the Human Resources Division and Director of Communications Branch in the Defence Cyber Electromagnetics Division.

He faces charges of accepting 93,000 ringgit without consideration from someone connected to his official duties.

Prosecutors allege he received the money from a 33-year-old man through a 31-year-old woman at a Shah Alam bank branch between October 13, 2023, and April 25, 2025.

All charges fall under Section 165 of the Penal Code, carrying a maximum two-year jail term or fine or both upon conviction.

The court granted Mahazam bail of 10,000 ringgit with specific conditions attached.

He must not disturb any witnesses, including colleagues at the Ministry of Defence, throughout the proceedings.

Mahazam is also prohibited from accessing any files and data related to the corruption case.

The court has scheduled December 17 for the next mention of the matter.
