Two men charged with smuggling 14 Myanmar migrants into Malaysia

Two men charged in Kota Bharu Sessions Court for smuggling 14 Myanmar migrants, facing up to 20 years imprisonment under anti-trafficking laws.

KOTA BHARU: Two men were charged in the Sessions Court here today with smuggling 14 Myanmar migrants into the country.

Mohamad Ezzaq Roslan, 32, and Mohamad Syafiq Nazeri, 29, both identified as ground handlers for smuggling activities, nodded after the charges were read before Judge Nik Habri Muhamad.

No plea was recorded from the accused.

The pair were jointly charged with committing the offence at a house in Kampung Paloh Rambai, Ketereh, at 4 am on October 19.

The charge falls under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

Conviction carries a penalty of up to 20 years imprisonment, a fine, or both.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Kamilah Che Ibrahim handled the prosecution, while lawyer Ahmad Syafiq Aizat Nazri represented the two accused.
