KOTA BHARU: Police have demolished another 12 illegal jetties along the banks of Sungai Golok, bringing the total destroyed to 37.

Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the jetties were part of 96 illegal structures identified along the river near the Malaysia-Thailand border.

“The demolition of these jetties is part of the ongoing efforts by the authorities in this state to strengthen border security control and curb cross-border criminal activities,” he said.

He added that the identification of jetties began in mid-2025, with demolition work carried out in stages.

The latest jetties demolished include those at Syed Agil, Tok Awang Tinggi, Stor Kayu Nasir, Hajjah, Abe Yie and Haji Ghani.

Overall, authorities have identified 223 illegal jetties along the border from Tumpat to Jeli.

Mohd Yusoff revealed that 216 were built on government land while the remaining seven were on privately owned land.

“We will proceed with the remaining demolitions once funding is received from the Federal Government, and it is expected that all jetties will be demolished by March,” he added.
