Kelantan police chief confirms suspension of OCS pending MACC and JIPS investigations into alleged bribery involving a foreign national.
KOTA BHARU: An Officer-in-Charge of a Police Station (OCS) in Kelantan facing a bribery probe will be suspended from duty to allow the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) to complete their inquiries without interference.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said both agencies are conducting parallel investigations, while the process to suspend the officer is underway pending the completion of the probes.
He stressed that the police would not compromise with any officer or personnel found to be involved in bribery or extortion.
“If we have evidence, there will be no compromise. We will investigate and take action in accordance with the regulations.
“I have repeatedly reminded all officers and personnel about the importance of integrity since I began serving in Kelantan,” he told a press conference after the Kelantan Police Contingent Headquarters monthly assembly here today.
The media reported yesterday that the 41-year-old OCS was remanded for seven days until July 26 after a Magistrate’s Court allowed a MACC application to facilitate investigations into allegations that he accepted a RM500 bribe in return for not taking action against a foreign national.
Meanwhile, Mohd Yusoff described the alleged bribery case involving the OCS as an isolated incident that does not reflect the integrity of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in Kelantan.
He also urged all district police chiefs (OCPDs), division heads and supervisors to strengthen integrity monitoring to ensure abuse of power is effectively prevented.
