MACC probes army procurement, questions three over irregularities

MACC questions three individuals and investigates 158 army projects over RM500,000 for alleged procurement irregularities and contract awards.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has recorded statements from three individuals as part of an investigation into alleged irregularities in army project procurement.

The probe, which began on Monday, is intensifying with the scrutiny of accounts suspected of being linked to procurement-related corruption.

A source said initial investigations found 158 army procurement projects exceeding RM500,000 between 2023 and 2025.

For projects below RM500,000, there were 4,521 projects in the same period.

“A preliminary review of these projects revealed that several companies repeatedly secured high-value contracts, raising suspicions,” the source said.

The source added that a detailed profiling of the companies involved has yet to be carried out.

MACC officers visited the Ministry of Defence last Tuesday to focus on projects implemented through open tender processes.

Investigations also cover procurement under the ‘Pusat Tanggungjawab (PTJ) Tentera Darat’.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed an investigation paper has been opened under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

He stressed that all investigations are being conducted independently and professionally based on facts and evidence.

The commission also received a complaint and recorded a statement from activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, at its Putrajaya headquarters yesterday.
