Malaysian border agency seizes 46kg of Indian roses without permit

Malaysian Border Control seizes 46kg of fresh roses from India lacking import permit at KLIA cargo, citing biosecurity risks.

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has seized 46 kilogrammes of fresh roses imported from India without a valid permit.

The three boxes of flowers were intercepted during an inspection at the KLIA Cargo Free Commercial Zone yesterday.

AKPS said checks confirmed the roses lacked the required approval and permits from the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (MAQIS).

The case is being investigated under Section 11(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 for importing agricultural commodities without a valid MAQIS Import Permit.

“All seized items have been detained for further action in accordance with established procedures and applicable legal provisions,” AKPS said in a statement.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to tightening controls on the entry of agricultural goods to safeguard national biosecurity.
