Police seize RM37.3 million in drugs from Ipoh bungalow

Police raided an Ipoh bungalow, arresting two and seizing drugs worth RM37.3 million, linked to a syndicate masterminded by a foreigner.

IPOH: Police have seized drugs worth over RM37.3 million in a raid on a bungalow in an elite residential area here.

Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said a man and a woman, both unemployed and in their 30s, were arrested at the location on January 16.

Officers discovered 838.33 kilogrammes of methamphetamine and approximately 679.22 kilogrammes of suspected chemicals in liquid and powder form.

Drug processing equipment was also seized during the operation.

“Further investigation of the bungalow’s car park area led to the discovery of 618.24 kilogrammes of material that had been processed into cement slabs,” said Hussein.

Analysis confirmed the slabs contained MDMA, also known as methylenedioxymethamphetamine.

Hussein said the syndicate, believed active since December 2024, is masterminded by a foreign coordinator who rented the bungalow as a strategic storage location.

Both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and have prior criminal and drug-related records.

They have been remanded for 13 days until January 26 to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The NCID is tracking a male Chinese national suspected of being involved, with assistance from international counterparts.

Police believe the foreign suspect has visited Malaysia five times, most recently in August last year.

Checks with the Hong Kong Narcotics Bureau revealed the individual has four prior records for illegal drug possession in Hong Kong. – Bernama
