Former PM Najib Razak testifies he never obstructed probes into 1MDB and SRC, maintaining the RM42 million was a Saudi donation.
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has told the High Court he never obstructed investigations into the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and SRC International Sdn Bhd cases.
The former prime minister gave this testimony during re-examination by his lead counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah.
Najib is facing a RM42 million civil suit filed by SRC and its subsidiary, Gandingan Mentari Sdn Bhd.

Muhammad Shafee asked Najib to confirm he remained prime minister for three years after the matters became public.
The lawyer then asked if Najib had ever stopped or obstructed the ensuing investigations.
Najib replied “No” to the question.
The 2021 suit seeks a declaration that Najib is liable for the RM42 million.
It also claims damages for knowing receipt, dishonest assistance, misfeasance in public office, and abuse of power.
The hearing before Justice Datuk Raja Ahmad Mohzanuddin Shah Raja Mohzan will continue on 9 February.
After the trial, Muhammad Shafee held a press conference to clarify earlier media reports.
He addressed claims that Najib knew money deposited into his account was not from Saudi Arabia.
The lawyer emphasised his client maintains the RM42 million was a donation from a Saudi monarch.
“He answered based on the court’s decision regarding the earlier criminal proceedings,” said Muhammad Shafee.
“Based on his own knowledge, he continues to believe all the money he received came from Saudi Arabia.”
Muhammad Shafee stated Najib never said he had abandoned this belief. – Bernama
