HRD Corp names new CEO after six-month tenure of predecessor

HRD Corp appoints Datuk Mohamed Shamir Abdul Aziz as new CEO following the departure of Dr Syed Alwi Mohamed Sultan after six months.

PETALING JAYA: The Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) has appointed Datuk Mohamed Shamir Abdul Aziz as its new chief executive, effective today.

In a media release issued today, HRD Corp announced Mohamed Shamir’s appointment following the departure of Dr Syed Alwi Mohamed Sultan, who had been serving as chief executive since around July 2025.

Earlier today, HRD Corp published a public message expressing its appreciation to Syed Alwi, thanking him for his service and dedication during his tenure with the organisation.

“HRD Corp expressed its appreciation to Dr Syed Alwi Mohamed Sultan for his leadership and contributions throughout his time with the organisation, noting the legacy he leaves behind.”

Mohamed Shamir most recently served as managing director of Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia, the national microfinance institution.

HRD Corp said his appointment comes as the agency continues to advance its mandate in skills development, workforce training and human capital sustainability.

The appointment was formalised during a handover ceremony at the Human Resources Ministrty (Kesuma) in Putrajaya today.

The ceremony was officiated by Human Resources Minister Ramanan Ramakrishnan, and witnessed by secretary-general Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof, along with senior ministry officials.

The leadership transition took effect immediately, with no interim arrangement announced.

theSun had approached HRD Corp for further clarification on the circumstances surrounding Syed Alwi’s departure, including whether the decision was voluntary and whether his appointment was for a fixed term.

theSun had also contacted the office of the Human Resources Minister for clarification.

As of press time, no response had been received.
