Police arrest two more local men in Bukit Kayu Hitam shooting case, bringing total suspects to nine after commander’s vehicle was fired upon near border.
BUKIT KAYU HITAM: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the latest arrests involved two local men, aged 51 and 58, detained here last night.
The arrests bring the total number of individuals held to nine, following the initial detention of seven people on the day of the shooting.
Saifuddin stated that follow-up investigations from the earlier arrests led to the identification of the two new suspects.
Authorities are currently processing the two men and will seek a remand order after the first 24-hour period.
The minister provided the update during a press conference after an official visit to the MCBA entry point at the Bukit Kayu Hitam ICQS complex.
He revealed that commander SAC Mohd Nasaruddin M Nasir told police he believed he was being followed before the attack.
Mohd Nasaruddin provided details on the individuals’ appearance and demeanour, which helped police develop a profile leading to the arrests.
The initial seven individuals detained ranged in age from 22 to 52 and included a 22-year-old Thai woman.
They were arrested in several raids conducted here and in Padang Besar on the same day as the shooting.
The commander’s Proton X70 was shot at around 5.40 am on Wednesday at a slip road leading to Masjid Muhajirin.
The location is about one kilometre from the Malaysia-Thailand border.
Two suspects on a motorcycle fired two shots, believed to be from a semi-automatic weapon.
