The Environment Department DG and deputy DG are among four individuals remanded by MACC in a corruption investigation linked to e-waste management.
PUTRAJAYA: The director-general and deputy director-general of the Environment Department have been remanded for seven days in a corruption probe.
An assistant environmental control officer was also remanded for the same period to assist investigations into electrical and electronic waste management.
A fourth individual, a member of the public, was remanded for three days in connection with the same case.
Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah issued the remand order following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission at the Putrajaya Magistrates’ Court.

The four individuals arrived at the court compound around 9.30 am clad in orange lock-up attire and handcuffed under MACC escort.
Media reports stated the two senior officers were detained at around 6.30 pm yesterday after giving statements at the MACC headquarters.
The MACC investigation is focusing on allegations of abuse of power and corruption linked to e-waste management over several years.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the arrests and said the investigation is being conducted thoroughly and professionally.
He said the commission would not compromise with any party involved in corrupt practices regardless of position.
The case is being investigated under the MACC Act 2009. – Bernama
