Five men arrested for provoking, threatening customer in Sungai Isap McDonald’s

PETALING JAYA: Five men were arrested after allegedly provoking and threatening a customer at a McDonald’s outlet in Sungai Isap in Kuantan.

Kuantan district police chief ACP Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said that the five suspects, working as a bank officer, car salesman, contractor, business owner and army member, were arrested on Saturday (April 13) at around 3.30pm, Sinar Harian reported.

All five suspects, aged between 27 to 43 years old were detained in the Detective Standby room at the Kuantan district police headquarters (IPD).

The 40-year-old victim was said to be with his family at the eatery at the time on Friday at 10.25pm, when he saw the men campaigning for the fast food joint’s boycott and was called over by one of them.

“When the victim went over to the men, one of them swore at him and started to provoke him.

“The victim tried to ignore them by returning to the premises but after exiting to go home, the group provoked the complainant once more,” Zahari said.

Zahari added that one of them grabbed a helmet then handed it to his friend and threatened to beat the victim. The victim’s wife managed to de-escalate the situation.

A report was lodged later on following the incident.

On Saturday, a viral video of the group seen campaigning for a boycott against the McDonald’s branch in Sungai Isap.

Four of the men admitted to being at the scene but did not make any criminal threats against the victims but only one suspect had made criminal threats against the drinks seller during the incident.

“Two out of the five suspects had past criminal records involving drugs, according to investigations.

“We also confiscated a Honda Jazz car, a Mitsubishi Triton car, a flag with a fishing rod, a Redmi mobile phones and a Yamaha LC motorcycle, helmet, a white shirt, blue pants as well as a remote control,” Zahari said.

The case is investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation which involves a prison sentence up to two years or fined or both if found guilty.
