Up to 100,000 passengers to benefit from RM50 flight rebates as government eases travel costs for Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan routes.

PUTRAJAYA: The government will offer a RM50 flight rebate for travel between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan in conjunction with the upcoming Gawai and Kaamatan celebrations, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced today.

The scheme, which runs from May 15 to June 14, is expected to benefit approximately 100,000 passengers purchasing air tickets for those specific routes.

The rebate scheme will be funded by a RM5 million allocation from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

“The initiative is aimed at sustaining the aviation industry while providing meaningful benefits to the public, especially those travelling for work, education, family matters and other essential needs,” Loke stated during a press conference here.

He added that the move reflects the government’s continued commitment to ensuring that the national transport system remains accessible and affordable for all segments of society.

In addition to passenger rebates, Loke announced a policy shift to support airline operators.

The government will extend the payment credit period for aviation fees and charges from 30 days to 60 days, effective May 1.

“This extension will help improve their cash flow over a two-month period. The airlines welcomed the move following discussions we held with them yesterday,” he said.
