Government plans to equalise Form Six and matriculation status

PM Anwar announces plan to upgrade Form Six status to match matriculation, including allowances and new college in Sabah with hostel facilities.

KOTA KINABALU: The federal government plans to upgrade Form Six status to be on par with matriculation students according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar confirmed the proposal was submitted by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek during a town hall session at the PMX Sayang Sabah Bersama Anak Muda Inanam programme.

“Previously, Form Six was considered part of the school system whereas matriculation or other foundation programmes receive allowances,” he said.

“Therefore, the status of Form Six students must be equal to matriculation.”

The prime minister stated that whatever is provided to matriculation students should also be provided to Form Six students.

He also announced government plans to establish a Form Six college in Sabah equipped with student hostel facilities.

During a recent Dewan Rakyat sitting, Fadhlina said the Education Ministry was studying the potential of making Keningau an education hub.

This includes considering the establishment of a Form Six college in the district according to the minister.

The move aligns with the government’s aim to expand post-secondary learning opportunities for rural students.

Anwar elaborated that all development efforts stem from strong federal and Sabah government cooperation.

This includes upgrading dilapidated schools throughout the state according to the prime minister.

He emphasised that Sabah’s youth must be equipped with knowledge and skills for state development.

An educated generation improves individual lives while contributing to state and national progress Anwar added.
