Shamsul Iskandar’s resignation shows Madani government integrity

PM Anwar says Shamsul Iskandar’s resignation over corruption allegations demonstrates the Madani government’s commitment to integrity.

KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the resignation of his senior political secretary shows the MADANI Government upholds high integrity standards.

Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin resigned after being linked to corruption allegations and requested an MACC investigation.

The Prime Minister described this decision as unprecedented in the country’s administration.

“He immediately resigned and requested that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission conduct an investigation,” Anwar said during a town hall session.

“Has that ever happened before? Only then can we claim integrity.”

Anwar contrasted this with past administrations where investigated officials allegedly fled abroad.

The Prime Minister consistently reminds all staff to take responsibility for any misconduct.

“I told my staff: if you are found guilty, you have to face the music, full investigations; take it to court,” he said.

He emphasised that only through such accountability can the country truly be protected.

Anwar stressed that Malaysia’s path to becoming a successful nation must begin with good governance.

Shamsul Iskandar announced his resignation on Tuesday after an attempt to implicate him in matters damaging to the government’s image.
