Government to launch training module for Muslim NGOs

A new management training module will be introduced to strengthen governance and financial management for Muslim non-governmental organisations.

PUTRAJAYA: The government will introduce a special management training module to strengthen governance and financial management among Muslim non-governmental organisations.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the move is crucial in addressing gaps in knowledge and management skills.

He said these gaps have contributed to allegations of misconduct, including corruption and embezzlement, involving some Muslim NGOs.

“We have discussed the development of a comprehensive and holistic module, to assist Muslim NGOs in strengthening their capabilities in management, finance, administration and governance,” he told reporters after delivering his New Year’s message.

“We view this as an urgent need, as these organisations carry significant responsibilities and public trust.”

Earlier in his message, Zulkifli said the government would not introduce any new plans in the management of Islamic religious affairs.

He said it would instead continue implementing existing policies and initiatives with necessary adjustments and improvements.

The approach aims to ensure policy continuity and avoid frequent changes with each new leadership.

“We will continue what is good and make the necessary adjustments, refinements and improvements to existing plans,” he said.

He added that a retreat session would be held to redraft the documents.

Commenting on religious outreach, Zulkifli stressed the need to shift from a defensive stance to a proactive one.

“Previously, our approach was too defensive and reactive – we only responded when issues arose,” he said.

“What is most important today is for everyone to help project the true beauty of Islam to the world through proactive efforts.”

He said such efforts were crucial to prevent society from being influenced by extremist views.
