Johor KPDN seizes 2,669 counterfeit football jerseys worth RM135,000 in raids on three premises linked to World Cup season sales.

JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) seized 2,669 counterfeit jerseys worth an estimated RM135,000 during raids on three premises in Johor Bahru and Kota Tinggi yesterday.

Johor KPDN director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said the operation was conducted following intelligence gathering and public complaints, with enforcement efforts focused on curbing the sale of counterfeit jerseys in conjunction with the 2026 World Cup season.

In a statement today, she said inspections found the premises offering various football jerseys bearing trademarks of several well-known brands without the authorisation of the registered trademark owners.

Initial inspections and verification by the complainant’s representative found reasonable grounds to believe that an offence under Section 102(1)(c) of the Trademarks Act 2019 [Act 815] had been committed, she said.

The offence relates to possessing, keeping or controlling for trade purposes goods to which a trademark is falsely applied.

Lilis Saslinda said three local men, comprising the owners and caretakers of the premises, were detained to assist investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 102(1)(c) of the Trademarks Act 2019.

Individuals convicted of the offence face a fine of up to RM10,000 for each counterfeit item or imprisonment of up to three years, or both, for a first offence. For subsequent offences, the penalty is a fine of up to RM20,000 for each counterfeit item or imprisonment of up to five years, or both.

For companies or corporate bodies, the maximum fine is RM15,000 for each counterfeit item for a first offence and up to RM30,000 for each counterfeit item for subsequent offences.

She said Johor KPDN would continue to intensify enforcement operations and take stern action against parties involved in the sale or distribution of counterfeit goods that infringe intellectual property rights and mislead consumers.
