KTMB introduces extra ETS and Shuttle Timuran services from Jan 1, enhancing connectivity between north, south and east coast Malaysia.
KUALA LUMPUR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will launch additional train services for the southern and east coast sectors from January 1.
The move aims to improve capacity, connectivity and passenger comfort across the national rail network.
Four new Electric Train Service (ETS) trips will be added on the KL Sentral-JB Sentral-KL Sentral route, bringing the daily total to eight services.

Two existing Padang Besar-Segamat services will also be extended directly to JB Sentral.
“This completes the objective of the Gemas-Johor Bahru Electrified Double Track Project in establishing a continuous rail network linking the northern and southern economic regions,” KTMB said.
On the east coast, two extra services will be introduced on the Shuttle Timuran route between Gemas and Kuala Lipis.
This increases the total to six daily services on that sector.
“The initiative will benefit East Coast passengers, particularly those travelling to Johor Bahru, by allowing them to experience the ETS3 via transit at Gemas station,” it added.
Ticket sales for travel until May 2025 will open at noon on December 17.
KTMB said the expanded schedule is designed to meet higher demand during public holidays and festive periods like Thaipusam, Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Tickets are available via the KITS Style app, the KTMB website and at KTMB kiosk machines.
KTMB chief technical officer Ahmad Nizam Mohamed Amin said the completed electrified line from Padang Besar to Johor Bahru strengthens the national network.
“It marks a new chapter towards a more sustainable, modern and people-centric rail transport system,” he said.
He added that it expands safe, efficient and comfortable public mobility options for all. – Bernama
