MAF commits to continuing community outreach programme in 2026

The Malaysian Armed Forces pledges to continue its Civil-Military Cooperation programme next year, pending budget approval, to strengthen ties with local communities.

SEMENYIH: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) is committed to continuing its Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) programme next year, subject to budget approval.

Malaysian 4th Infantry Division commander Major General Datuk Khairul Azmizal Ahmad Natal said the programme, also known as Program Jiwa Murni (PJM), remains a priority for the army.

He stated the initiative has proven effective in strengthening ties between the military and civilians.

“This programme will be continued by the MAF, specifically the Army,” he told reporters at an event here.

He added that priorities for 2026 would be set based on needs and capabilities once the financial allocation is finalised.

Approximately RM165,000 was allocated for the CIMIC programme by the 4th Division throughout 2025.

Various activities were conducted, including engineering projects, health check-ups, and community assistance programmes.

Khairul Azmizal was speaking at the opening of an Engineering Civic Action Programme (ENCAP) at Kampung Pasir Baru.

The 2nd Royal Engineers Regiment was tasked with repairing the village community hall, a project now completed.

He noted the village community’s reception of the MAF has been very positive and good.

“This cooperation not only benefits the villagers but also strengthens the relationship between the public and the military,” he said.

The commander explained that the PJM approach has been practised since the era of the communist threat.

It is based on the principle that national defence is a shared responsibility.

“Although the communist threat ended in 1989, the approach of reaching out to civil society continues,” he said.

He added it strengthens public-military cooperation in facing national security challenges.

In disaster contexts, assisting the public is a secondary task for the MAF.

Khairul Azmizal said that role will continue as part of the MAF’s commitment to societal well-being.
