Malaysia and Indonesia boost halal industry cooperation

Malaysia and Indonesia strengthen strategic ties in halal industry, trade, rural development, and human capital, says Ahmad Zahid.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Indonesia will continue to strengthen their strategic cooperation across various sectors, particularly in halal industry development, trade, rural development and human capital development.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the matter was discussed during a courtesy call by Indonesia’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Raden Datuk Mohammad Iman Hascarya Kusumo, and the head of Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Organising Body (BPJPH), Dr Ahmad Haikal Hassan, at the Parliament building today.

He said the meeting also discussed several proposed areas of cooperation that could further strengthen the halal ecosystem at both the regional and global levels.

“It includes the establishment of the Malaysia-Indonesia Halal Council (MIHC), the ASEAN Halal Council and the World Halal Development Council as platforms to harmonise halal standards, expand halal trade and investment, and strengthen international cooperation in the future,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also chairman of the Malaysia Halal Industry Development Council, said the longstanding close ties between Malaysia and Indonesia are expected to serve as a catalyst for deeper cooperation.

He added that such collaboration will not only create more opportunities for both countries but also contribute to the development of a more competitive halal ecosystem at the regional and global levels.
