Malaysia strengthens ASEAN digital ties, promotes AI talent and ethical governance, and explores hydrogen economy partnerships during Vietnam forum.
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing regional cooperation and strengthening ASEAN’s digital ecosystem through policy coordination.
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang conveyed this position during his working visit to Ho Chi Minh City for the three-day Autumn Economic Forum 2025.
“Malaysia’s participation reflects ongoing science and technology diplomacy with Vietnam,” MOSTI said in a statement.
Chang represented Malaysia at the Youth Inspirational Talks: AI Generation NOW session, delivering an address titled “AI for Regional Innovation and Connectivity.”
He highlighted Malaysia’s efforts under the National Artificial Intelligence Roadmap 2021-2025 to cultivate AI talent and promote ethical digital governance.
The minister emphasized harnessing the potential of ASEAN’s youth-driven population for regional technological advancement.
Chang also delivered a keynote address titled “Advancing Inclusive Digital Transformation” outlining Malaysia’s comprehensive approach to digital transformation.
His presentation covered governance, ethical AI adoption, talent development and inclusive economic innovation.
During a bilateral meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, they discussed cooperation in science, technology and innovation.
The leaders also addressed food security, halal certification and a proposal to establish a joint database between the two nations.
Chang reiterated Malaysia’s willingness to deepen this collaboration and extended condolences to Vietnam following recent flooding disasters.
At a luncheon session with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Bùi Thanh Sơn, Chang delivered a speech on Malaysia’s hydrogen economy strategy.
He detailed the country’s approach to developing hydrogen power through innovation and global cooperation for a sustainable energy future.
