Social Welfare Department confirms eight disaster depots nationwide with 5,789 personnel ready for flood relief operations across affected states.
PARIT BUNTAR: Malaysia has established eight disaster basic necessities depots across several states to ensure supply continuity during emergencies.
Social Welfare Department director-general Datuk Che Murad Sayang Ramjan confirmed the depots are strategically located in flood-prone regions.
These facilities serve as critical supply storage for areas that might become inaccessible during disasters.
The depots operate in Bedong, Muar, Sungai Buloh, Marang, Kemumin Pengkalan Chepa, Kuantan, Kota Samarahan and Kota Kinabalu.
Additionally, the department maintains 11 state stores, 119 district stores, 65 mini depots and 562 forward bases nationwide.
“We have 5,789 officers and personnel stationed at relief centres throughout the country,” Che Murad said.
The department also coordinates 5,744 volunteers who support relief operations during emergencies.
Many states have already opened relief centres to accommodate flood evacuees amid current weather conditions.
Che Murad confirmed he contacted all state directors to monitor the situation closely.
“Till now, the situation at all centres are under control,” he told reporters after closing the Pantuk Tirai @ MADANI Adopted Village programme.
The department received 50,000 units of retort-packed food from the National Disaster Management Agency.
These emergency rations will be distributed to flood victims at relief centres nationwide.
“We will provide the food in retort packs first before activating communal cooking activities,” he explained.
This protocol ensures immediate food availability within 24 hours of centre activation.
