Malaysia and Singapore aim to finalise domestic laws for the cross-border RTS Link by June 30, ensuring full enforcement by September to safeguard sovereignty and operations.
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Singapore have agreed to finalise their respective domestic laws governing the cross-border Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link by June 30.
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said this timeline would ensure the legislation is ready for full enforcement by September 30.
He stated that the timeline was agreed upon in a supplementary agreement finalised during the 12th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat last December.
The government is confident the powers under the Bill will safeguard national sovereignty and interests.
This includes providing protection for Malaysian enforcement officers stationed at the Woodlands North Station in Singapore.
Shamsul Anuar told the Dewan Rakyat the Bill aims to enable monitoring and enforcement for the RTS Link’s operation.
It will connect Bukit Chagar Station in Johor Bahru and Woodlands North Station in Singapore without affecting existing laws.
Deputy Speaker Alice Lau Kiong Yieng said debate on the Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS Link Bill 2026 will begin tomorrow.
