The Immigration Department says its nationwide operations are intelligence-led and continuous, not tied to specific periods, while maintaining a respectful approach.
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Immigration Department has clarified that its enforcement actions are strictly intelligence-led and not influenced by seasonal factors. Director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban stated that legal violations can occur at any time, making continuous operations necessary.
He explained that certain periods, like festive seasons, can actually aid detection by revealing specific movement patterns. Zakaria detailed that between March 20 and 24, the department conducted 45 inspections and monitoring operations nationwide.
These operations involved 3,826 checks on foreign nationals at targeted locations to verify their status and documents. He emphasised that all actions are carefully coordinated to be orderly, controlled, and driven by integrity.
Field officers are regularly instructed to follow strict discipline and standard operating procedures. Zakaria added that they must also respect cultural sensitivities and community norms while performing their duties.
The department conducts enforcement continuously and responsibly, including during festive celebrations. This ensures ongoing compliance with the nation’s immigration laws.
Zakaria noted the department remains mindful of foreign nationals celebrating festivals away from home. He stressed that all inspections are conducted in a controlled, respectful, and professional manner.
“This approach also helps minimise anxiety and inconvenience for the local community, especially in public areas,” he said. The department is committed to balancing effective law enforcement with social sensitivity and community harmony.
