34 media organisations receive RM10.3 million in first phase of government innovation fund, with further applications now open
PUTRAJAYA: A total of 34 media organisations have been awarded RM10.3 million in the first phase of the government’s Media Innovation Fund.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil announced the successful applicants today, following the fund’s launch with an allocation of RM30 million.
The initiative, announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for National Journalists’ Day 2025, received 50 applications in its initial phase.
Fahmi stated that the high number of submissions reflects the industry’s confidence and readiness for progressive transformation.
He revealed that applications for the fund’s second phase, open from February 9 to 22, also showed positive momentum with 19 participating organisations.
The application window for Phase 3 will open from March 1 to 14.
“This development demonstrates the industry players’ commitment to continue innovating and adapting their business models to current needs and realities,” Fahmi told a press conference.
He emphasised that the fund aims to strengthen media capabilities through technology adoption, quality content development, and workforce skill enhancement.
It also serves as a catalyst for a more sustainable, progressive and competitive media ecosystem, according to the minister.
The government is confident this initiative will create more growth opportunities for media organisations.
Fahmi added that it will help them contribute to delivering accurate, ethical and high-quality information to the public.
