Malaysia’s digital exports hit RM6.8 billion, driven by AI companies

Malaysia’s digital exports reached RM6.8 billion from 2024 to mid-2025, with AI-enabled firms contributing half of the total, says MDEC.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded RM6.8 billion in digital exports between 2024 and the first half of 2025.

The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) said the strong performance marks a milestone in the nation’s digital economy journey.

It attributed the results to its support programmes that help Malaysian digital companies expand internationally and secure growth capital.

In 2024 alone, digital exports generated RM4.2 billion from 325 companies operating across 27 countries.

This momentum continued into the first half of 2025, with exports reaching RM2.6 billion from 350 companies in 39 global markets.

Notably, artificial intelligence-enabled companies accounted for approximately 50% of total digital exports.

MDEC said these robust indicators are expected to continue into the second half of 2025.

Minister of Digital Gobind Singh Deo said the outcomes demonstrate Malaysia’s readiness to lead in the global digital economy.

He said the growth reflects international confidence in Malaysia’s policies, talent, and digital infrastructure.

“As we advance toward becoming an AI Nation by 2030, our priority is to ensure innovation translates into tangible economic value,” he said.

Gobind added that the results show Malaysian digital companies are increasingly prepared to compete globally.

MDEC chief executive officer Anuar Fariz Fadzil said the results reflect the corporation’s evolution over three decades.

He stated that targeted facilitation and funding support have accelerated companies’ ability to scale rapidly.

“The strong digital export performance reflects how enhanced market access can establish a sustainable global presence,” Anuar said.
