Malaysia’s first national PAC conference to unify financial oversight

Malaysia’s parliamentary PAC hosts inaugural national conference to standardise financial oversight and strengthen governance between federal and state levels

KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament will host the inaugural All-Malaysia PAC Conference from today until tomorrow.

PAC chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the conference aims to enhance the committee’s image as a check and balance body on executive functions at both federal and state levels.

The Masjid Tanah MP said it also seeks to understand PAC implementation methods in state assemblies nationwide. It will provide benchmarks for more standardised PAC proceedings and meetings at all government levels.

“This conference also focuses on strengthening governance in the conduct of PAC proceedings, meetings and reporting through the sharing of new ideas,” she said in a statement.

The conference will bring together all members of parliamentary and state government PACs, involving about 140 participants.

Attendees will include ex-officio members of Parliament, state government officers, and state assembly secretaries.

Key components include discussions on state PAC challenges and a dialogue on strengthening public accountability. Panels will feature experts in auditing, governance and financial crime prevention.

A summary session will cover conference resolutions and designate the host for the 2028 All-Malaysia PAC.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul is scheduled to officiate the conference on Friday.

The PAC expects the conference to produce practical resolutions and align financial oversight approaches between federal and state governments. It aims to strengthen the effectiveness of the PAC’s role at all administrative levels.
