BN secretary-general says MIC’s choice to remain in the coalition demonstrates long-term political maturity and a commitment to stability
KUALA LUMPUR: The MIC’s decision to remain within Barisan Nasional has been hailed as a sign of political loyalty and maturity.
BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the party’s Central Working Committee’s resolution reflects deep-rooted historical ties, not just a current political stance.
He noted the coalition’s origins date back to the Perikatan era from 1955 to 1973, which was later strengthened under BN from 1974 onwards.
Zambry said the alliance has endured numerous challenges over the decades because it is built on trust and shared responsibility.
“The coalition has weathered numerous challenges, from racial tensions and political pressures to shifts in the national landscape, yet it has endured because it is built on trust, loyalty and shared responsibility,” he said in a statement.
He stated that MIC’s choice is grounded in rational considerations, including the need for stability and the strength of multiracial cooperation.
Zambry added that the public requires a stable and experienced platform amid an increasingly fragmented political climate.
“In Malaysia’s plural society, BN is more than a political coalition,” he said.
He described it as a model of inter-ethnic cooperation that has stood the test of time and remains vital for social harmony.
Zambry stressed that BN is undergoing restructuring to renew its approach and better respond to public expectations.
He said the decision sends a clear signal that the principles of togetherness cannot be sacrificed for short-term interests.
“Ultimately, this decision is not just about today, but about the future, that politics grounded in unity, moderation and responsibility still has an important role,” he added.
Zambry concluded that efforts to consolidate BN will continue, relying on internal strength to address any attempts to weaken the coalition.
