MOE approves new classrooms for overcrowded Selangor schools

Education Ministry approves additional classrooms for overcrowded Selangor schools as a short-term measure to improve learning conditions.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Education has approved the construction of additional classrooms for overcrowded schools in Selangor.

Minister Fadhlina Sidek said this is a short-term measure to address congestion and infrastructure shortages affecting student learning.

The decision followed discussions with the Selangor State Education Department and the ministry’s team.

Fadhlina said the issue is being addressed promptly without waiting for it to go viral on social media.

“After reviewing the short-term intervention, I have approved the immediate construction of additional classrooms for these schools,” she stated.

She noted that overcrowded schools and cramped classrooms negatively impact learning effectiveness.

The additional classrooms will therefore be constructed in phases at the affected schools.

Fadhlina also instructed an increase in teaching posts to address teacher shortages at these schools.

She added that new schools under construction will receive immediate attention to ensure plans meet current needs.

The minister’s next meeting will be with the Kedah Education Department to address similar overcrowding issues there.

Fadhlina said the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2026–2035 prioritises creating conducive learning environments.
