New NG999 emergency call system launches nationwide in Malaysia

Malaysia’s NG999 emergency system replaces MERS999, featuring AI technology, geolocation services and the SaveME999 app for faster response

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s new emergency call system, the Next Generation Emergency Services (NG999), commenced operations today, replacing the Malaysian Emergency Responses 999 system.

The public has received text messages encouraging them to download the SaveME999 application from the AppStore or Google Play.

The app facilitates accurate, fast and effective transmission of emergency information.

“Please avoid misuse of the emergency line,” the SMS reads.

NG999 is an integrated strategic digital system that enhances resource and data sharing between emergency call centres and related central agencies.

This integration improves the efficiency of emergency services nationwide.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching previously explained the system integrates web-based digital mapping, caller ID and geolocation services.

It also incorporates artificial intelligence technology and mobile smart applications into emergency incident management.

She noted the NG999 system has expanded to more than 800 locations nationwide.

This represents a twofold increase compared to the number of locations under the previous MERS999 system.

The enhanced coverage and technological capabilities aim to provide more efficient emergency assistance across Malaysia. – Bernama
